Nintendo GameCube - Fastest Selling New Videogame Console Ever!

Nintendo GameCube has soared to record retail heights, becoming the fastest-selling home video game console of this generation. Through its first week of availability, GameCube sold more than one-half million systems to consumers, at a rate nearly twice that of Microsoft's Xbox, and at least 25 percent faster than the launch of Sony's PS2 last year. Of initial North American shipments of some 740,000 hardware units, approximately 100,000 systems went to Canada and Latin America and another 75,000 to U.S. rental and other distribution channels. Of the approximately 80 percent destined for U.S. retail locations, virtually all are now sold out. The first of weekly replenishments of approximately 125,000 units are already arriving at stores.

"At a suggested retail price of \$199.95, consumers can purchase Nintendo GameCube and two games for the same cost as rival, current generation game consoles alone. It's like getting two games for free," said Peter Main.

Perfect Dark 2 - GameCube

Sources close to Nintendo have said that Perfect Dark 2 will not be a first-person shooter like the N64 game. Perfect Dark 2 for GameCube will be a MGS2-style third-person sneak-'em-up, with added spy elements and a little more use made of the first-person camera for some sections. But the majority of the game will be viewed from outside Joanna Dark's body. Just as Golden Eye 007, re-invented the first-person shooter genre, expect Rare's new Perfect Dark game to re-invent the awesome MGS engine. Perfect Dark 2 should be playable at E3 2002 .

Nintendo GameCube Tops Harry Potter

Nintendo's claim for weekend GameCube sales put the game ahead of blockbuster movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," which posted a record, three-day opening weekend box office of just over \$90 million. "Harry Potter's such a hot thing it's just kind of nice to be up there with that," Kaplan said. The top-selling game for the console, Kaplan said, was "Luigi's Mansion," a Nintendo-publisher title, followed by Lucas Arts' "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2" and Nintendo's "Wave Race: Blue Storm." For the first nine months of the year, Nintendo had five of the top-10 selling video games, according to statistics released by The NPD Group on Monday. Nintendo has started to sell the Nintendo GameCube on November 18th for \$199. Nintendo shipped 700,000 GameCube consoles at launch and will ship a total of 1.3million GameCube by December 24th.

Biohazard News - GameCube

Shinji Mikami, producer of the Biohazard series (Resident Evil in the US) revealed that 70% of the new Biohazard GameCube game will differ from the original PlayStation game. Items will be in different locations and the enemies will not be in the same locations. Also the game locations will differ greatly; Mikami mentioned the forest in the game, which now contains steam and gas turbine systems. While these differences may not be as major as some people may like, Mikami did mention that he is trying to keep the remake interesting for those who have already played through the original. Biohazard will ship in Japan on March 22, 2002. The US version is expected to ship April, 2002.

Resident Evil Remix
Future Resident Evil Games Exclusively On Nintendo GameCube... Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto was present at the Capcom press conference, along with Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) creator, Shinji Mikami. Capcom announced that the "rebirth" of Resident Evil series of games are to be created exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube. If you want to play the new Resident Evil 1, Zero, 2, 3 or 4 you will have to buy a GameCube. The creator of the Resident Evil series was not happy with Resident Evil 2 and 3 as he did not think they presented the same amount of fear that was in the original game. He will use the power of the GameCube to bring a greater level of fear and realism to the games. The Resident Evil series will be recreated starting with one. While working on Resident Evil 4 the team experienced development limitations while working on the PS2 hardware. From this experience Mr. Mikami chose the Nintendo GameCube in order to make the best game possible. Capcom said it plans to launch the first exclusive Resident Evil title for GameCube on March 22nd. "GameCube is very powerful and easy in terms of software development. We believe the GameCube is a machine that will definitely have a five-year life cycle, if not longer. So it will provide the stability needed for the future of the Biohazard series." said Shinji Mikami These images represent actual real-time gameplay on the Nintendo GameCube.
